Next Group Run: Wednesday (3/14) at 5:15 – Start near Home Depot

Getting Ready to Take Off From the Aquatic Center- March 10

We had a great group long run on Saturday morning. And just about perfect running weather! Almost everyone did a 7-miler down the Cross Hollow trail and around Leigh Hill, and finished at the Aquatic Center looking strong!

Our next group run will be next Wednesday, March 14, at 5:15. We’ll start and return on the frontage road by Home Depot for a 3 to 4 mile out-and-back run. Yes, the last mile will be uphill, but a great workout! Just slow down, summon your inner hill-climber and think what a wonderful thing you’re doing for your body! See the attached map of the run route.

Next Saturday several of us will be running in the Leprechaun Launch 5K so we’ll plan our next organized Saturday run for March 24.

Two of us decided to take the "short-cut" up Cody Drive.

Running Against the Wind –And With It. Our Leap Day Group Run.

It was great to see more first-timers show up for yesterday’s group run on the Dikes Trail despite the windy and cool conditions. But we all know in Cedar City we wouldn’t get much exercise if we waited for the wind to stop before getting out to run.

Next Wednesday, we’ll run on the frontage road on the west side of the I15 freeway, south of The Home Depot. More details to come in the next post. Here are a few images from yesterday. We’ll see you next week!

Next Group Run on Wednesday, February 22, at West Canyon Park

We had another good group 5K run last Wednesday on the Cedar Canyon Trail. We ran into a little snow at the end but that made it that much more memorable and fun! Once again, the dozen or so runners who showed up ran or jogged at a wide range of paces. A couple said they were looking forward to running their first 5K race pretty soon, so training and finishing a 5K distance in practice is great for motivation and confidence! We’re looking forward to more folks joining us and will plan on continuing with the group runs throughout the winter and spring.

Our next group run will be Wednesday, February 22 at 5:00 p.m. We’ll run a 5K loop from the West Canyon Park, same as last week.

Click on the attached map for directions to the West Canyon Park parking lot. Enter through the alley way off of 400 East.

Group Run – Canyon Trail – Wednesday, February 15

Our next group run will start and finish at the West Canyon Park. We’ll meet at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15 and run a 5K loop following the Canyon Trail, Highway 14, Highland Drive, past the Veterans’ Park and back to the start. See the images/maps for more details. If you are looking for a shorter 2-mile route, you could do an up-and-back on the Canyon Trail to the footbridge.

We had a good turnout at last Wednesday’s group run and would love to see even more people show up for the next one! Please spread the word to anyone who might be interested in joining us. Looks like we all have the same reasons for getting together: improve our fitness, stay motivated, and have fun! See you there!

Next Group Run on Wednesday, February 8

Thanks to everyone who showed up for our first group run last Wednesday –it was as fun to get to meet and talk as it was to run with you! The weather cooperated and we had a great time. We expect even more enthusiastic, smiling faces to show up for our next group run on Wednesday, February 8 at 5:00 p.m. This time we’ll meet inside the Cedar City Aquatic Center before heading out. We will get together before and after the run — where you can run or jog at your own pace.

We’ll follow the same 3-mile course that we ran on February 1. Want a little shorter distance? Take a shorter loop back to the Aquatic Center. More distance? Make a second loop for another 2 to 3 miles. For the next group run after this Wednesday we’re planning to try one of the city trails for a change of scenery. We’re open to suggestions on where we should go for future runs.

Also, over the next few weeks we’ll be asking if there is any interest in running together more frequently as part of a “runner development series.” Is anyone interested in improving their pace for an upcoming 5K or 10K race? How about improving your endurance enough to try, or or improve your time in, a half marathon or marathon? If so, would you be willing to join one or more of our group for faster workouts at a local track or longer runs of 10 or more miles? Please let us know your thoughts or suggestions when we get together, or comment anytime on this and future CCRC blog posts or on Facebook.
See you soon!

Still On For Group Run Today

We’re still on for a group run starting at the Aquatic Center today at 5:15. Probably a little windy, so wear layers. Once we get going you can choose your own pace and distance (see image) to loop back to the Aquatic Center. Plan on about 1/2 hour of exercise. So far it looks like at least a few runners, joggers, jog-walkers, and walkers will be there! We look forward to seeing you there too!

Join Us For A Group Run!

Are you staying active this winter? It helps to have a goal and there are several local races coming up for you to choose from. We’ll do our best to post information about them here. To keep you motivated throughout the spring, the Running Club will hold a timed 5K Fun Run in April. We’ll give you more details over the next several weeks.

Steve Winslow and Alan Gudmundson of the Running Club will be getting together for informal group runs this year. For our first group run we will meet at the Aquatic Center parking lot at 5:15 p.m. next Wednesday, February 1. After that, we’ll continue to meet for at least one run each week as long as there is interest. We’ll call these “friendship runs” –very informal, everyone is welcome, and there is no fee. We don’t intend to provide personal training or coaching, but we would love to trade ideas with you about how to get in better shape and avoid injuries. We will follow a flat 3-mile loop course on Leigh Hill. Those who want to run a shorter distance can take a shorter loop back to the Aquatic Center. You can run or jog at your own pace to meet your personal goals and objectives. We’ll plan on increasing the lengths of these runs as the daylight hours increase in the spring.

We hope this will encourage runners, joggers and walkers to get together–one of the Running Club’s goals. If there is enough interest, the club will organize specific training runs for speed or distance workouts on other days of the week, including a “Runner Development Series” for long distance running and racing of half-marathons and marathons. We would really like to hear your ideas on how the Running Club can help the local running community. So come and join us next Wednesday and give us your thoughts. See you there!
